Senior researcher. "César Nombela" Talent Attraction Program

compound extreme events; dendrochronology; hydroclimatic risks; Mediterranean basin; paleoclimatology; volcanic forcings

I am a senior researcher at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC) under the "César Nombela" Talent Attraction Program of the Community of Madrid. Degree in Geography (University of Zaragoza). Master's in Geographic Information Science and Technology (University of Zaragoza). PhD in Geography and Spatial Planning (University of Zaragoza, 2017).

My international postdoctoral career includes positions as postdoctoral research associate and research scientist at the University at Albany (USA, 2018-2022); visiting scientist at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University (2019-2020); and at the Universidade de São Paulo (Brazil, 2019). From 2022 to 2024, I was a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow at MNCN-CSIC.

My research focuses on the assessment of climate risks and extreme events, including droughts, floods, heatwaves, and compound extremes, by integrating high-resolution paleoclimatic proxies, historical documentary records, and climate model simulations through data assimilation techniques. My priority areas are the Mediterranean basin and mountain ecosystems.

I have led and participated in international projects with research groups in the USA (Columbia University, SUNY Albany), Brazil (Universidade de São Paulo), Germany (Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz), Bolivia (Universidad Mayor San Andrés), and Argentina (IANIGLA-CONICET), among others, as well as in networks and projects such as PIRE-CREATE (NSF), PAGES-VICS, and CLIM'PY (POCTEFA). I actively collaborate with national groups at CSIC, and the University of Zaragoza.
