Reconstrucción de la erosión y degradación del suelo durante las últimas décadas en el Parque Nacional Sierra de las Nieves mediante técnicas dendrogeomorfológicas, sedimentológicas y paleolimnológicas (PALEOEROSION)


Abstract
The PALEOEROSION project aims to reconstruct soil erosion and land degradation processes over recent decades in Sierra de las Nieves National Park. By combining dendrogeomorphological, sedimentological, and palaeolimnological approaches, the project analyses how hydrological extremes, land-use changes, and environmental pressures have shaped erosion dynamics in Mediterranean mountain catchments under current global change conditions.
The research integrates tree-root exposure analysis to quantify local erosion rates with sedimentary studies of check dams and small depositional systems to assess erosion intensity, sediment connectivity, and landscape resilience. By linking these natural archives with climatic and geomorphological data, PALEOEROSION provides scientific tools to assess soil vulnerability and support land management in the face of extreme runoff events.
