I am a senior researcher at the National Museum of Natural Sciences (MNCN-CSIC) and the scientific lead of the Hydrology and Climate Change Laboratory. Forestry Engineer (Technical University of Madrid, Spain). Master's in Applied Environmental Geology (University of León, Spain). PhD Forestry Engineer (Technical University of Madrid, Spain, 2011).
My academic career includes more than a decade as an associate professor at the Universities of Bern and Geneva (Switzerland), where I expanded my research on hydrological risks in the context of global environmental change. My work integrates process-based analyses, multi-hazard interactions, and climate–environment dynamics, combining local-scale observations with regional and global perspectives.
I have contributed to over 20 national and international research projects, including major European initiatives such as H2020, LIFE, and POCTEFA, as well as projects supported by institutions in Spain, Switzerland, and the United States. Beyond academia, my research has informed international disaster‑risk‑reduction frameworks, including guidelines developed by the United Nations (2019), and has supported policy development in countries such as Colombia and India.
In addition to my scientific contributions, I have been actively engaged in the broader research community. I served on the scientific committee of the Tree‑Ring Society (2013–2015), have led the Floods Working Group of PAGES (Past Global Changes) since 2017, and currently serve as a member of the executive committee of the Geosciences network within CSIC.
