BSc (1986) and PhD (1991) (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). Doctoral research addressed the sedimentological and structural controls of the Northwest Iberian Triassic basin edge, followed by postdoctoral collaborations with the Institut Français du Pétrole (France) and the Spanish Oceanographic Institute.

Senior Lecturer in Sedimentology and Stratigraphy at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) since 1998.

Research expertise spans fluvial sedimentology, tectonics-sedimentation relationships, and palaeohydrology, with special emphasis on slackwater flood deposits as records of past hydrological change and Global Change. I have worked on the reconstruction of long-term flood histories of major Iberian rivers, integrating sedimentary analysis, geochronology, hydraulic modelling, and historical documentary sources, with direct applications to flood risk assessment and dam safety.

Current research focuses on the response of Mediterranean river systems to climate variability and land use change, informing adaptation strategies in water resource management
